Conversational BI
Conversational BI lets people ask data questions in natural language and get answers back in context, without writing queries or waiting for a dashboard to be built.
Definition
Conversational BI is business intelligence accessed through natural language: a person asks a question, the system resolves it against governed data, and the answer comes back with context — often as a chart, a number and an explanation. It removes the query-language barrier, not the need for governed meaning.
Why it matters
- It moves analytics from a ticket queue to a conversation, which is where most business questions actually start.
- It exposes definitional disagreement immediately, because two people asking the same question expect the same number.
- Its credibility depends entirely on whether the answer can be scoped to permissions and traced to a source.
How BlueHomer implements it
In BlueHomer, a plain-language question is resolved against the governed semantic layer, executed under the asker’s own permissions with field and row controls applied, answered with lineage attached, and recorded in the audit trail — and it can hand off to Navi when the next step is an action rather than an answer.
